Coxlow Counselling

& Psychotherapy

Short or long term therapy?

I can't tell you that. Just as you know that you need help and choose therapy so will you know when you don't.

It maybe that you have noticed that there are patterns in your life that you realise are connected with how you are now. Once in your awareness you may decide that you would like to look at these aspects, their effect, and how you may change them to make things better for yourself. There is no hard and fast rule as to how long this takes, it is only you that will know when you feel comfortable with yourself and no longer in need of help.

It is important to remember that we are all different and the therapy I offer puts you in the driving seat to find what works best for you.

If you are interested please call me so we can book a time for a free consultation. The purpose of this time is to give you some idea what it would be like to work with me and to allow me to learn something of your hopes and fears around therapy and whether you feel it is something you want to do.

What happens in a therapy session?

Our initial conversation will give us both the opportunity to learn a little about each other. I'll listen carefully to what you say and maybe ask you how that is for you. Often by listening to your own words, and how you respond to my understanding of what you are saying helps to clarify what is going on, bringing about more under-standing and acceptance. By listening intently I may pick up clues that indicate a disparity with what you are saying and how you are behaving and I'll respectfully share with you my observation.

The opportunity to either agree of disagree without prejudice allows you to consider your situation from a different perspective. In so doing you are able to find the resolution that work for you giving you insight and freedom for future plans.

Everything we say in the counselling room is confidential, although there a few things that I could be required to pass on, but I'd talk to you about these before starting working with you.

It is widely acknowledged that the quality of the relationship with your therapist is the most influencing factor in a good therapeutic outcome, so you're welcome to call just to get idea of whether I'm someone you feel comfortable to talk to.
